The summer box office in the U.S. is headed for near-record levels, a consolation price of sorts as Hollywood braces for consolidation and a reshaping of the film business.
Look for 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' and 'Incredibles 2' to stomp past this weekend's two new nationwide entries, 'Uncle Drew' and 'Sicario: Day of the Soldado.'
Thanks in large part to families, Universal's 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' opened to a better-than-expected $150 million at the North American box office. Coming one week after Disney and Pixar's animated pic Incredbles 2 launched to a record-shattering $182.7 milion domestically, its debut is another reminder of the buying power of the families.
'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' should take a big bite out the U.S. box office this weekend — just not as big as 'Jurassic World' did three years ago.
